An Extensive Archive of Film Reviews From Film Society Creator Mike Lippert
Maybe it's simple vanity, but I've decided to dedicate a section of this site solely to my own person reviews of recent
mainstream films. These reviews have appeared both in print and on the internet and now for the first time they are gathered
into one extensive archieve. They do not relate to the film society so much as they provide a reflection of my thinking and
ways of thinking about film in general. Just like Truffaut called for a cinema that beared that individual stamp of it's maker
so many years ago, I believe that my writing, when taken as a whole, offers a gateway into my personal thoughts and emotions;
there is no better summation of me in this world then that which is contained within this page.
The reviews span several years of writing, some of which I would have just as soon forgot. They arn't all zingers, but
I would like to believe that each one, despite their flaws, offers some insight or argument that I still fully stand behind.
That's why I have decided to display the whole collection, unchanged (if maybe mildly tweaked) from their original publication. If
I wrote them again today the only thing I would change is the syntax and mechanics: improve the structure and find the most
economic adjectives, but the ideas would remain the same. That's what's special about these old reviews, even through my displeasure
with some of them, they all represent my state of mind at the time of conception. I hope you will enjoy.
